Forsyth County will open a dedicated recreation center for residents with disabilities Oct. 15, following an approximately $744,000 renovation of the former Charles Place Senior Services Center in Cumming.
The new Thrive Center, at 595 Dahlonega St., includes indoor activity spaces, an adaptive outdoor court, a patio and a backyard. A ribbon cutting is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15.
The opening comes as participation in the county’s therapeutic-recreation programs has grown 40% since 2018, according to the county. The renovated building will give those programs a dedicated home.
The approximately $744,000 cost covers the renovation of the existing facility.
For families interested in participating, program schedules, eligibility requirements, fees and registration details will be important to confirm with Forsyth County Parks and Recreation before planning a visit. The ribbon-cutting date should not be assumed to be the starting date for every program.
The county announced the opening Sept. 30. Details about the ceremony are available in its Thrive Center announcement.
