START WITH THE STORY

Before the crowds,
a walk with Mark Toro.

Restaurant patios face the plaza. A bar wraps around a tree that survived the redevelopment. Upstairs, apartment staff are preparing for the first residents.

On Oct. 22, we walked Medley with the developer who helped create Avalon. Toro explained how a square in Madrid influenced the plaza, why he chose these restaurants and what he wanted to do differently this time.
