Atlanta Dream opens Finals today: Where to watch and join fellow fans

Atlanta’s 13-year wait for another WNBA Finals appearance ends Saturday afternoon, and fans have a place to gather in Sandy Springs as the Dream begins its pursuit of a first championship.

The Dream faces the Golden State Valkyries at 3:30 p.m. Eastern on Oct. 17 at Chase Center in San Francisco. NBC will televise Game 1, with streaming on Peacock. The series is best-of-seven, with the first team to four victories taking the title.

Atlanta arrives unbeaten in the playoffs after sweeping Washington in the opening round and New York in the semifinals. Angel Reese, Rhyne Howard and Jordin Canada have helped carry the Dream back to the Finals for the first time since 2013.

Golden State presents a difficult matchup. The Valkyries won all three regular-season meetings between the teams and are seeking their own first championship in just their second season.

Where to watch together

For North Atlanta fans who want company for the game, Hudson Grille Sandy Springs, at 6317 Roswell Road NE, is on the Dream’s official Finals watch-party list.

The team has announced gatherings across metro Atlanta, with Dream giveaways at participating locations. Other listed options include:

Hudson Grille Tucker: 2075 Northlake Parkway, Tucker.

SweetWater Brewing Company: 195 Ottley Drive NE, Atlanta.

Park Tavern: 500 10th Street NE, Atlanta.

Jolene Jolene: 1963 Hosea L. Williams Drive SE, Atlanta.

STATS Brewpub: 300 Marietta Street NW, Suite 101, Atlanta.

Fans planning to bring a group should contact the venue about seating and any entry requirements before leaving.

Watching from home

NBC and Peacock coverage begins at 3 p.m. Eastern Saturday, ahead of the 3:30 p.m. tipoff.

Game 2 follows Monday, Oct. 19, at 8 p.m. Eastern, also in San Francisco, airing on USA Network and CNBC and streaming on Peacock.

The series then comes to State Farm Arena for two guaranteed games:

Game 3: Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 8 p.m., on USA Network, CNBC and Peacock.

Game 4: Saturday, Oct. 24, at 1 p.m., on NBC and Peacock.

Game 3 was moved forward from Oct. 22, while Game 4’s start time was moved earlier. Fans using an older schedule should note both changes. Ticket information is available through the Atlanta Dream.

One question entering the series is Allisha Gray’s availability. The Dream guard missed the final two semifinal games after injuring her left hand. The WNBA’s series preview described her as day-to-day following a minor procedure.

Atlanta managed to finish its sweep without its regular-season leading scorer. Against a Golden State team it has yet to beat this year, getting her back could give the Dream a needed scoring option.

Keep it. Pass it on.
