Gwinnett Seeks Water-System Workers in Buford as County Hiring Spans Trades and Office Jobs

Gwinnett County is hiring for 34 positions including trades and management roles. Buford has three openings in water system work, while Lawrenceville offers diverse job opportunities.

Gwinnett County is recruiting workers to maintain water-treatment equipment, manage drinking-water production and enter the utility field through an internship, with three openings assigned to Buford.

The positions are part of 34 active county job postings as of Oct. 13. Most of the openings are assigned to Lawrenceville, where recruiting ranges from maintenance and food service to engineering and legal work.

In Buford, the Trades Technician II, III or IV opening, posted Oct. 9, calls for hands-on work with pumps, valves and other equipment at water-reclamation facilities. Responsibilities include troubleshooting mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, making emergency repairs and performing preventive maintenance.

A Water/Wastewater Intern opening, posted Oct. 6, offers another route into the department. Applicants should check the position’s specific education, schedule and compensation requirements before applying.

At the management level, the county is seeking a Water Production Section Manager to oversee two drinking-water facilities with capacities of 98 million and 150 million gallons per day. The operation has about 50 staff members. The manager will oversee its budget and help ensure the facilities produce safe drinking water and meet permit requirements. That position was posted Sept. 30.

Lawrenceville accounts for 30 of the county’s current postings. Four added Oct. 12 seek an HVAC controls technician, maintenance technician, deputy county attorney and senior assistant county attorney. Other recent openings include a cook, intake coordinator, appraiser supervisor and water-resources trades workers.

Part-time work is available, though the benefits differ. A communications assistant position carries a maximum of 1,508 hours a year and does not include paid holidays, leave or benefits. Eligible employees in other positions can receive county benefits including health coverage, paid parental leave and tuition reimbursement.

The 34 postings are a snapshot of recruiting, not a count of new jobs created. Some advertisements combine several job classifications or may cover multiple hires.

Candidates can filter the county’s application portal by Buford or Lawrenceville. Each posting carries its own qualifications and employment terms, making the individual job description the place to confirm pay, hours and application deadlines.
