North Atlanta offers several activities Saturday, from a glow run and live concerts to family-friendly folk music and a new musical in Roswell. Outdoor events urge sun safety.

From a nighttime glow run to free live music, family activities and a new Roswell musical, several worthwhile events remain on the calendar for Saturday, Aug. 15.
It is not too late to make Saturday plans around North Atlanta. Same-day registration remains open for one of Peachtree Corners’ largest recreational events, while Cumming has a free evening concert and Roswell offers both an indoor musical and a family folk-music program.
Heat is the main planning concern. The National Weather Service forecast for Cumming calls for mostly sunny skies and a high near 95 degrees, making water and sun protection important for outdoor activities.
Light Up the Corners still has race-day registration
The strongest last-minute option is Light Up the Corners, a nighttime running and walking event at The Forum in Peachtree Corners.
The family-friendly Twilight Trot begins at 8 p.m., followed by the four-mile glow run at 8:30 p.m. Activity Row will be open from 7 to 10 p.m., with glow-themed activities and a post-race celebration.
Race-day registration costs $50 and remains open from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Suite 500 at The Forum, next to HomeGoods. Preferred T-shirt sizes are not guaranteed for late registrants.
Organizers are encouraging participants to walk, get dropped off or park at one of several nearby locations—including Town Center, Fowler YMCA and Peachtree Corners Baptist Church—to reduce congestion around The Forum.
Roswell’s new musical offers two Saturday performances
Roswell Cultural Arts Center has 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. performances of “Quilters, A Musical”, which opened Friday and continues through Aug. 23.
The production uses a bluegrass-inspired score and stories of frontier women to explore hardship, community and survival. Its textile theme also connects naturally with Roswell’s history as a mill town.
Tickets start at $36.75. A live pre-show “hootenanny” begins 30 minutes before curtain. The production is recommended for teenagers and adults because of themes involving childbirth, illness, death and loss.
The theater is at 950 Forrest Street. Parking is available beside the arts center and across the footbridge in Roswell City Hall’s Lower Lot F.
A folk-music program for children at Old Mill Park
Families can drop into American Folk Music for Kids from 11 a.m. to noon at the Old Machine Shop at Vickery Creek.
The interactive program introduces children to American folk and patriotic songs through singing, dancing and storytelling. Families may stay for the full hour or participate briefly.
The program is at Old Mill Park, 95 Mill Street in Roswell, near the covered bridge. Free parking is available in the park lot. The event listing does not state an admission price.
Autism-friendly back-to-school event in Peachtree Corners
Success On The Spectrum is holding a free Autism School Year Kickoff from 10 a.m. to noon.
The event is designed for children with autism, siblings and caregivers. Activities include a bounce house, indoor playground, arts and crafts, cornhole and light refreshments.
It will take place at 4046 Wetherburn Way, Suites 1–6, in Peachtree Corners. Families are asked to register through the event page before arriving.
Free classic rock at Cumming City Center
The JIMMY CAV Project performs from 8 to 10 p.m. at the Lou Sobh Amphitheater at Cumming City Center.
The band’s set covers classic rock from the 1970s through the 1990s, ranging from AC/DC to Led Zeppelin. Admission and parking are free.
Visitors may bring lawn chairs or blankets, and leashed dogs are welcome. Coolers, outside food, outside alcohol, glass bottles, tents and smoking are prohibited.
One sold-out warning
The Anita Baker and Luther Vandross tribute scheduled tonight at The Velvet Note is no longer a last-minute option. The venue has marked both performances sold out, so visitors should not head to the Alpharetta club without an existing reservation.
