Northview High Opens to Out-of-District Students for $11,000 a Year
Northview High School in Johns Creek has opened its doors to out-of-district students with a tuition of $11,000 per year. The program helps the district manage declining enrollment by filling empty seats and offering another school choice for families nearby.

Fulton County Schools is offering tuition-based enrollment at four high schools, including Northview High School in Johns Creek, as the district looks for ways to fill available seats and offset a long decline in student enrollment.
Students who live outside the Fulton County school district may apply to attend Northview for $11,000 per academic year or $5,500 per semester.
The program gives families in neighboring communities another public-school option while allowing Fulton to collect tuition from seats that might otherwise remain empty. For North Atlanta families, Northview’s inclusion is particularly notable because the Johns Creek school has long been recognized for its academic performance and extensive advanced-course offerings.
Northview recorded a 98% graduation rate during the 2024-25 school year, according to figures reported by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. District officials said the four participating schools were selected because they have space available while also offering strong academic opportunities.
Enrollment Has Fallen by Nearly 15,000 Students
The tuition initiative arrives as Fulton County Schools faces a substantial decline in enrollment.
The district enrolled 99,819 students during the 2016-17 school year. Officials projected enrollment would fall to 84,856 students for 2026-27, a decrease of nearly 15,000 students over a decade.
That decline has financial consequences. Georgia’s school funding system is based partly on student headcount, meaning districts generally receive less state funding when enrollment falls. Fulton has been reviewing ways to use available classroom space while developing additional sources of revenue.
The district has not announced a specific tuition-revenue goal for the first year. Officials have described the initial rollout as an opportunity to establish the application, review and enrollment process before the program expands.
Admission Is Not Automatic
Applicants must be Georgia residents and enrolled in grades nine through 12.
Families must complete an online application through Infinite Campus and provide a records-release form. The district will request and review the student’s academic, attendance and disciplinary records before making a conditional admission decision.
Students who receive conditional approval must pay tuition by the district’s deadline before enrollment and class scheduling can be completed.
Acceptance into a school also does not guarantee admission into a specialized program located there. A student accepted at a magnet school, for example, may still need to complete the school’s separate magnet application process.
Families Must Provide Transportation
Once enrolled, students are expected to maintain satisfactory attendance, academic progress and behavior. Fulton may withdraw a tuition student for disciplinary violations, failing core academic classes or falling behind the graduation schedule.
The district’s application process includes six stages: submitting the application, reviewing student records, receiving a conditional decision, paying tuition, completing enrollment and scheduling, and beginning classes after withdrawal from the previous school.
Applications for first-semester enrollment remain open through Sept. 30. The first semester runs from Aug. 3 through Dec. 18.
Applications for the second semester may be submitted from Sept. 30 through Feb. 28, 2027. That semester is scheduled for Jan. 5 through May 27.
Program Could Reach More North Fulton Schools
Fulton plans to expand the tuition program gradually.
During the 2027-28 school year, the district expects to add schools without traditional attendance boundaries, including Innovation Academy in Alpharetta and Promise Career Institute in College Park.
Beginning in 2028-29, the program could be extended to other Fulton schools with available capacity. That could make tuition-based public-school enrollment a more regular option for families living near the district line in Forsyth, Gwinnett, Cobb and other neighboring counties.
For now, Northview is the only participating school in the Johns Creek and Alpharetta area, giving nearby families their first opportunity under the new program to seek a seat in one of North Fulton’s best-known high schools without moving into the Fulton County school district.
