Gwinnett Is Hiring Election Workers for November, With Pay Up to $500

Gwinnett County is recruiting paid poll workers for Georgia’s Nov. 3 general election, offering positions open to adults and teenagers as young as 16.
About 3,000 people work at Gwinnett polling places on Election Day, with nearly 500 residents recruited during a typical election cycle. The temporary positions remain open for applications, although submitting one does not guarantee an assignment.
Pay depends on the position, training and additional duties:

The highest amount is reserved for poll managers who complete online and in-person training, collect supplies before the election and return materials afterward. These are temporary assignments without benefits, not regular county jobs.
Election Day begins early. Workers must arrive by 5:30 a.m. and usually remain until 9 or 10 p.m., after voting equipment has been secured and the paperwork completed. Once sworn in, poll officials cannot leave the polling location except during an emergency. Workers also need to bring their own meals and drinks.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens, speak and read English, have reliable transportation and be able to lift between 15 and 50 pounds. An email address and computer access are required for training and county communication. Gwinnett is particularly interested in multilingual applicants, including Spanish speakers.
Residents of Duluth, Suwanee, Sugar Hill and Peachtree Corners can apply directly as Gwinnett residents. People living in neighboring Fulton or Forsyth counties may also qualify, but they must obtain an employment waiver from their home county before receiving an assignment. Poll managers and assistant managers must be registered Georgia voters.
The county will hold its next poll-worker hiring event from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at the Norcross library, 5735 Buford Highway. Additional events are scheduled Sept. 21 and Sept. 26 at the Gwinnett elections office, 455 Grayson Highway in Lawrenceville.
Applicants may also apply online at any time. Those who pass the initial review will receive instructions for completing an I-9 employment-verification form. The county contacts qualified applicants when vacancies become available.
Georgia’s general election is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Gwinnett’s advance-voting period runs from Oct. 13 through Oct. 30, and poll officials assigned to Election Day may also become eligible for advance-voting work.
