From Sandy Springs to Suwanee, Starbiz builds a family cleaning business

Starbiz Cleaning began with a handful of residential clients in Sandy Springs in 2017. Nine years later, the family business works from Sandy Springs and Suwanee, with recurring house cleaning at the center of a service that also reaches offices, classrooms and short-term rentals.

Owner Ralph Etienne said he started the company after hearing friends and neighbors complain about missed arrival times, changing crews and bills that did not match the original quote. His idea was to build a local operation around familiar faces and clearer expectations. Much of its early growth came through word of mouth, he said.

“When you’re the owner and your name is on the door, every single job matters,” Etienne wrote in answers to North Atlanta Star.

He works alongside his wife, and their young son has grown up watching the business take shape. Etienne said the connection between the person arranging a job and the crew carrying it out remains important as the company grows.

Starbiz recently expanded its Suwanee operation to serve more of Gwinnett and North Fulton, Etienne said. Its two hubs serve households and businesses in communities including Sandy Springs, Suwanee, Alpharetta and Johns Creek.

For households, the main service is recurring cleaning on a weekly, every-other-week or monthly schedule. New customers begin with a deep clean before moving into regular upkeep. The company also handles move-in and move-out cleaning, along with turnovers between short-term rental guests.

The first visit and any extras are worth discussing when arranging a quote. Interior appliance cleaning, windows and carpet shampooing are among the services customers can request; the scope depends on the job. Starbiz offers online estimates and free on-site walkthroughs, with the final quote confirmed after the walkthrough.

Commercial customers include offices, medical and dental practices, retail businesses, gyms, schools and daycares.

Etienne said he wants the next stage of the business to include local youth sports sponsorships. The sponsorships are planned for the coming year.
