An Amicalola Falls Overnight: Lodge Rooms, Cabins and Thanksgiving Plans

Compare a lodge room with a cabin at Amicalola Falls, plan Thanksgiving dining and check the trail closure before a November mountain break.

At Amicalola Falls, a weekend can revolve around a waterfall walk, a restaurant table and a room with a mountain view. For North Atlanta readers planning a November break, the first decision is how much of that weekend to spend in a hotel-style lodge and how much to make it a cabin trip.

Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge, near Dawsonville, has 57 lodge rooms and 13 cabins, as well as camping and glamping. A Thanksgiving buffet on Nov. 26 adds a reason to consider staying overnight, but room reservations and holiday dining need separate attention.

A lodge room keeps the stay simple

The lodge’s rooms and suites include heating and air conditioning, Wi-Fi, television and coffee and tea. King, queen, double and suite options are available. Compare the room’s description and view category before booking, especially if the view is a large part of the reason for going.

Cascades Restaurant is on site, so a lodge stay can work for visitors who would rather arrange meals there than plan a weekend around cooking. The restaurant overlooks the mountain valley. A room booking should not be treated as a dinner reservation or a promise that meals are included.

Check lodge-room rates and availability at Amicalola Falls on Expedia. Match the room type, view and cancellation terms when comparing with the lodge’s direct rate.

Cabins offer a different arrangement

The cabins have one, two or three bedrooms, heating and air conditioning, decks, fireplaces and satellite television. Nine are on the mountaintop and four are creekside below the falls. Those are distinct locations within the park, so ask which area and cabin number you are reserving.

Four cabins accept dogs. Call ahead for the pet rules and availability instead of assuming every cabin is pet-friendly. If you plan to cook, confirm the appliances, cookware and supplies in your particular cabin before packing groceries.

For a family sharing accommodation, separate bedrooms may matter more than a lodge room’s view. For a couple planning one night and restaurant meals, a room may involve less preparation. The choice comes down to the actual sleeping arrangement and how you want to spend the time between walks.

Thanksgiving at Cascades

Cascades’ Thanksgiving Day buffet is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 26, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The advertised prices are $55 for adults, $50 for seniors and $25 for children ages 5–12. Ask about tax, gratuity and pricing for younger children when reserving.

The restaurant takes table reservations online. If Thanksgiving dinner is the reason for the trip, confirm the table and the room before committing to a nonrefundable stay. A hotel reservation alone does not settle the meal.

On ordinary days, Cascades’ dining hours are 7–10 a.m. for breakfast, 11:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. for lunch and 4:30–8 p.m. for dinner. Holiday service can replace the regular schedule, so match the meal plan to your dates.

Check the trail before planning the walk

As of Nov. 2, 2026, the East Ridge Trail is closed for maintenance. Check the park’s current notice again before leaving. Do not build a route around an older map without checking that closure.

The waterfall rises 729 feet, and a visit can involve steep terrain. The park’s guided waterfall hike is rated moderate to strenuous and includes an optional 175 stairs. Strollers are not permitted on that guided hike; children must walk or be carried.

Guests needing accessible accommodation can ask about designated lodge rooms, cabins 4 and 12, and campsite 1. Confirm the route from parking, bathroom features and the walks you want to take when discussing the reservation. An accessible room and a suitable waterfall route are separate questions.

Booking the overnight

All vehicles entering the park require a $10 Georgia State Park Pass. Ask how that charge is handled with your lodging reservation, and compare the final stay total with taxes and any other fees.

For a lodge room, compare rates and availability on Expedia with the lodge’s direct rate. Use the official accommodation page for the full choice of lodge rooms, cabins and campsites, or call 706-344-1500. Check that the confirmation names your intended accommodation and spells out the cancellation deadline.
