Chamblee Police Chief Michael Dieppa Resigns to Take Florida Post

Chamblee Police Chief Michael Dieppa is stepping down to take a new role in Florida after three years marked by crime reduction and new policing initiatives. The city has yet to name his successor.

Chamblee Police Chief Michael Dieppa has resigned to become police chief in Mount Dora, Florida, ending a three-year tenure that included the creation of a Real-Time Crime Center and new neighborhood policing initiatives.

His departure will take effect later this year, the City of Chamblee announced Tuesday, Oct. 27. The city has not yet named a successor or provided details of the leadership transition.

Dieppa took charge of the department on Oct. 23, 2023, following a six-month search. Before coming to Chamblee, he spent more than 27 years with the Miami-Dade Police Department, where he served as a major.

“It was a great honor to lead, serve, and protect the Chamblee community for three years,” Dieppa said in a statement.

During his tenure, the department established a Neighborhood Resource Unit and Citizens Advisory Committee, launched a bicycle patrol and designated its first LGBTQ+ liaison. Officers also received Autism Safety 101 training.

Dieppa swore in Andrianne Byrd as Chamblee’s first female assistant police chief. The department also earned certification through the Georgia Law Enforcement Certification Program and added patrol vehicles and equipment.

The city credited his administration with double-digit decreases in crime in each of his three years as chief. Its announcement did not provide the underlying totals or a breakdown by offense.

City Manager Kristen Gorham thanked Dieppa for his service and contributions to the department. Chamblee will announce further information about the transition as it becomes available.

Keep it. Pass it on.
