Johns Creek Approves Yearlong Food-Truck Trial at The Boardwalk
Johns Creek approved a yearlong pilot to allow food trucks at The Boardwalk at Town Center. The trial tests demand with designated spots and rules to keep areas accessible and clean.

A walk around Johns Creek’s Boardwalk could soon come with a food-truck stop, even when there is no festival underway.
The City Council approved a 12-month trial Oct. 26 allowing mobile food vendors at The Boardwalk at Town Center. Food trucks and pushcarts have previously been limited to city-sponsored or city-permitted events in Johns Creek parks.
Council approved both the ordinance establishing the program and a separate vendor-fee resolution as part of its Oct. 26 consent agenda.
A trial at one park
The pilot centers on The Boardwalk behind City Hall, at 11362 Lakefield Drive. It creates an opportunity for regular food service around the park’s walking route and gathering spaces without opening every city park to independent vendors.
The plan presented to council limits trucks and carts to designated areas and approved operating times. It allows food and nonalcoholic drinks, requires vendors to keep accessible routes and emergency access clear, and calls for them to remove their waste and leave at the end of the day.
Those restrictions were part of the proposal outlined before the vote. A citywide expansion would require another council decision.
Testing demand as Town Center grows
Community Development Director Ben Song and Recreation and Parks Director Michael King introduced the trial at the Oct. 5 work session. Council agreed then to move it forward and receive a staff check-in after the yearlong program.
The experiment arrives as nearby Medley opens its first wave of restaurants and shops, bringing more destinations to the developing Town Center. The Boardwalk itself earned a statewide public-space award earlier this fall.
The approval establishes the program, but it does not give visitors a daily food-truck calendar. A starting lineup and regular serving schedule have not yet been confirmed. For now, residents should check individual event and vendor announcements before planning a meal at the park.
