A closed textile plant in South Carolina is headed for a new use making wood products, with Adeptus USA planning a $215.56 million investment and 217 jobs in Honea Path.
The company announced Sept. 30 that its first South Carolina operation will manufacture pine building materials, including moulding, boards, shiplap and panels. Production at 1205 Hamby Road is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2027.
Adeptus will occupy the former Belton Industries textile facility, which closed in 2025, according to the SC Daily Gazette. The project would bring manufacturing employment back to a site that had lost its previous employer.
South Carolina approved job development credits for the project and an $850,000 grant to Anderson County to help pay for building improvements.
The investment also gives the state’s forestry industry another outlet for processed wood. South Carolina Agriculture Commissioner Hugh Weathers said expanding and diversifying the sector’s opportunities is a state priority.
Hiring will build toward the opening
Recruiting company HTI will support the startup hiring process. Positions will be posted as they become available through its Adeptus hiring page.
The 217 jobs are the project’s announced employment commitment, with operations scheduled to start next year.
