Memorial Day Ceremonies and Patriotic Events Across North Atlanta This Weekend

Communities across North Fulton, South Forsyth and Gwinnett are preparing for Memorial Day weekend ceremonies honoring military service members who died while serving the country.
From Alpharetta and Roswell to Suwanee, Sugar Hill and Gwinnett County, the long weekend will include patriotic concerts, remembrance ceremonies, wreath layings and community gatherings.
One of the larger local events takes place Friday evening in Suwanee, where the city and Everett’s Music Barn will host “Red, White, Bluegrass & Bach” at Town Center Park. The event combines patriotic music with live performances by the Main Street Symphony Orchestra and the Raven Welch Band.
In Alpharetta, Memorial Day observances are scheduled at Brooke Street Park on Monday morning, followed later that evening by the Alpharetta Symphony Orchestra’s annual “Let Freedom Ring” patriotic concert. Organizers say the orchestra will perform traditional American pieces including “America the Beautiful,” “God Bless America” and “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
Nearby Roswell will hold its 39th annual “Roswell Remembers” ceremony Monday morning outside City Hall. The event is expected to include military honors, a wreath laying, patriotic music and remarks from retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Cary S. King.
In Gwinnett County, several ceremonies are planned throughout the weekend. Sugar Hill will host a Monday morning ceremony outside the city’s Veterans Memorial, while Norcross plans its annual remembrance gathering at Thrasher Park featuring music from the 116th Army Band and remarks from veteran and police officer Terry Schaefer.
Officials in Duluth and greater Gwinnett County will also participate in the countywide Memorial Day ceremony Monday afternoon at the Fallen Heroes Memorial in Lawrenceville. Organizers say the program will honor fallen military and public safety personnel and include a combined honor guard and keynote remarks from Duluth council member and Army veteran Marline Thomas.
Elsewhere around metro Atlanta, ceremonies are also planned in Dunwoody, Smyrna, Dacula, Marietta and Stone Mountain Park, where Memorial Day weekend activities include military performances, drone shows and fireworks.
For many North Atlanta suburban families, the weekend remains both a beginning-of-summer tradition and a quieter moment of remembrance before beaches, cookouts and travel plans fully take over the season.
