Children and teenagers who make jewelry, bake treats or create other handmade goods will have a new place to test their business ideas this holiday season: Milton’s Christmas in Crabapple.
The city announced Sept. 4 that registration is open for a new Kids Market serving entrepreneurs ages 5 to 17. It will join the downtown celebration from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5.
Participants can sell items they have designed, baked, crafted or otherwise created. The market is operated in partnership with the city by the same organization behind Crabapple Fest’s Kids Market.
For young people interested in earning their own money, this is a small-business opportunity, not a paid job. There is no hourly wage or guaranteed income. What sellers keep will depend on sales and the cost of materials, packaging and participation.
That makes preparation important. Before buying supplies, families should work out what each item costs to produce and how many sales would cover their expenses.
Milton says Christmas in Crabapple typically attracts about 1,500 people, although that is past attendance, not a forecast of customers or sales. Space along Broadwell Road is limited.
Families can use the organizer’s registration link provided by the city. The announcement does not specify participation fees or a fixed application deadline, so families should confirm costs, availability and product requirements before committing.
