A metro Atlanta measles outbreak has grown again, while a former Forsyth entertainment complex is headed for a new community-serving use. Tax questions, job shifts and several near-term local decisions also deserve attention this week.
1. Metro Atlanta measles outbreak reaches 10 cases
Georgia health officials confirmed two additional measles cases Friday connected to the outbreak at a metro Atlanta daycare, bringing that outbreak to 10 cases.
The state has recorded 16 confirmed measles cases so far this year. The Department of Public Health is continuing to identify and notify people who may have been exposed; it has not publicly identified the daycare’s location. Georgia Department of Public Health’s Sept. 11 update.
2. Former Freedom Mill site is planned as a community for adults with special needs
The former Freedom Mill property at 2730 Spot Road in north Forsyth is expected to become Bennett’s Bridge, a residential and community program for adults with special needs.
Forsyth County commissioners approved a zoning amendment Sept. 3, allowing the reuse of the roughly 37,725-square-foot, two-building property. 3. Suwanee voters will decide a new homestead exemption in November
Suwanee voters will consider a Nov. 3 homestead-exemption referendum that would reduce the city-tax calculation for eligible owner-occupied homes by $15,000 in assessed value beginning in 2027.
At the city’s proposed 4.93-mill rate, that would amount to about $73.95 in annual savings. The exemption would affect only the municipal portion of a tax bill, not county or school taxes. North Atlanta Star’s explanation of the ballot question.
4. Peachtree Corners schedules a public update on deer management
Peachtree Corners will hold a public open house Sept. 24 on its deer-management plan, including survey results, population-study findings and the city’s next steps.
The meeting follows the city’s move from studying the deer population toward controlled removal on qualifying private properties through federal wildlife officials. It begins at 7 p.m. at City Hall. Peachtree Corners’ official announcement.
5. Health care is offsetting losses in North Atlanta’s office economy
The latest state employment data show a split regional job market: health care and social assistance added 14,500 jobs over the year, while professional, scientific and technical services lost 7,700.
Computer-systems design, consulting, finance and insurance also declined, a notable shift for office-heavy communities such as Alpharetta and Peachtree Corners. 6. Johns Creek holds its final advertised budget hearing Monday
Johns Creek will hold a public hearing on its proposed fiscal-year 2027 budget at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, in conjunction with the City Council meeting.

7. Duluth tax bills are due to arrive later this month
Duluth says its 2026 property-tax bills will be mailed in late September and will be due Dec. 15.
The city’s bill also includes stormwater charges, which are currently $90 for most detached single-family homes and $45 for most condominiums and townhomes. Duluth’s property-tax information.
8. Bunten Road Park trail work remains on track for a September reopening
Duluth expects the northern half of the Bunten Road Park walking trail to reopen this month, barring weather or other unforeseen delays.
That segment, around fields 2, 3 and 4, has been closed since May as part of a broader park-improvement project. The park remains open, while the full project—including parking-lot work—is expected to wrap up in spring 2027. Duluth’s construction update.
9. South Forsyth football stays unbeaten
South Forsyth continued its unbeaten start Friday with a 28-20 home win over Centennial, its first home game of the season.

10. Peachtree Corners festival is one week away
The annual Peachtree Corners Festival returns to Town Green and Peachtree Corners Circle next weekend, Sept. 19-20.
