Peachtree Corners Clarifies Town Green Play Rules: Balls Welcome, With Limits

Peachtree Corners permits casual ball play at Town Green but bans organized team practices. Small bikes are allowed except during events, when stricter rules apply.

Families can still bring a soccer ball or foam football to Peachtree Corners’ Town Green for casual play. The city has clarified that its recreation rules do not impose a blanket ban on ball games, while keeping tighter restrictions during city-sponsored concerts and festivals.

The Oct. 26 clarification draws a distinction between everyday family recreation and organized team practices. Casual play is allowed when it does not endanger others or interfere with their use of the park. Team practices remain prohibited, including activities involving coaches, scheduled practices and games.

The distinction affects a busy shared space. The Town Green at 5140 Town Center Boulevard occupies more than two acres within the 21-acre Town Center. Its lawn, children’s play areas, café tables and performance stage bring several kinds of visits together: an afternoon outside, a meal nearby or an evening concert.

Small bikes are allowed between events

Outside city-sponsored events, children may ride bicycles with wheels measuring 12 inches in diameter or less. Balance bikes and bikes with training wheels qualify only if they meet that size limit.

E-bikes and e-scooters remain prohibited on Town Green property at all times. The exception for small children’s bicycles does not extend to electric vehicles.

During city-sponsored events, the restrictions broaden. Bikes, scooters, skates and other wheeled recreational equipment are prohibited within the event area. Throwing or kicking balls and other sports activities are also off-limits during those events. A ball or small bicycle suitable for an ordinary park visit therefore needs to stay home when the family is attending a city concert or festival.

Gathering does not mean reserving

The Town Green’s rules for small gatherings also limit how much space one group can claim. Casual gatherings are welcome on a first-come basis, but visitors cannot reserve, mark off or hold an area.

Groups may use up to three tables and eight chairs from the park’s existing furniture. Personal tables and chairs are prohibited under the small-gathering rules, and gatherings cannot block access or disrupt other visitors. They also may not be publicly advertised or promoted online.

The park generally opens from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., though some event days have earlier closures. Before packing equipment for a visit, families should check the city’s special-events schedule: the same lawn has different play restrictions when it becomes an event venue.

Keep it. Pass it on.
