Saltbox has opened a new logistics hub in Chamblee, giving small product businesses an alternative to storing inventory at home or committing to a conventional industrial lease.
The company marked the opening Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 5315 Peachtree Boulevard, where a former Kodak facility has been converted into private warehouse suites, offices and shared shipping infrastructure.
The Chamblee site is Saltbox’s third location in metro Atlanta. It joins facilities on Seaboard Industrial Boulevard and Chattahoochee Avenue in Atlanta.
Suites at the new location range from about 110 to 3,200 square feet and are available through month-to-month memberships. Businesses can use shared loading docks, daily carrier pickups, inventory receiving, conference rooms and a content studio, with staff available for fulfillment and other operational help.
That combination is intended for companies occupying the difficult space between a home-based operation and a traditional warehouse.
A small retailer may need room for pallets, packing tables and outgoing orders without being ready for a long-term industrial lease. Others want to retain direct control of inventory instead of transferring fulfillment entirely to a third-party provider.
Demand for that middle ground was clear before the doors opened. A Saltbox grant competition drew 175 applications from Georgia businesses. Among those applicants, 102 were keeping inventory in a home or garage, while 115 were packing and shipping every order themselves.
The opening also brings a new use to an older commercial property along Peachtree Boulevard. The location sits near Chamblee City Hall and MARTA, with convenient access to Dunwoody, Doraville and Interstate 285.
Memberships at Saltbox Chamblee begin at $500 per month, with pricing increasing by suite size. Tours and move-ins are now available.
