North Atlanta Weekend Guide: 10 Things to Do July 24–26

North Atlanta residents have an unusually full entertainment calendar this weekend, with events stretching from Johns Creek and Alpharetta to Cumming, Roswell, Duluth, Sugar Hill and Peachtree Corners.

Weather will be the biggest uncertainty. The National Weather Service forecast calls for thunderstorms Friday and Saturday, with a lower chance Sunday. Check organizers’ pages before leaving for any outdoor event.

Friday, July 24

1. Back-to-School Bash in Johns Creek

Student musicians will perform during the School of Rock Johns Creek Back-to-School Bash. The afternoon offers families a chance to hear young local bands and learn about the school’s music programs.

2. Moonlight Market and Live Music in Alpharetta

Downtown Alpharetta will combine shopping and music Friday night. The Moonlight Market brings local artists and makers to Broad and Market streets from 5 to 10 p.m., with paintings, jewelry, textiles, home décor and other original goods.

3. Mary Kate Farmer Band in Duluth

Duluth’s Rock the Block series continues with the Mary Kate Farmer Band from 6 to 9 p.m. on the Town Green.

The weekly summer event turns the downtown green into an outdoor concert space. Visitors may bring a blanket or lawn chair, with restaurants and businesses within walking distance. Duluth event information

4. Two Nights of Free Music in Cumming

Cumming City Center has scheduled free concerts on both Friday and Saturday at the Lou Sobh Amphitheater.

Brotherhood will perform a tribute to the Doobie Brothers from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday, including familiar songs such as “Listen to the Music,” “China Grove” and “Long Train Runnin’.”

5. Alpharetta Farmers Market

The Alpharetta Farmers Market opens from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the Town Green at 2 Park Plaza.

The downtown market features produce, prepared foods and locally made products. It can also serve as an easy starting point for breakfast or lunch at nearby restaurants. Market information

6. “The Giant, The Beanstalk, & Jack” in Roswell

Roswell Cultural Arts Center presents a family-friendly puppet adaptation of the Jack and the Beanstalk story at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday.

The production uses handcrafted puppets, music and playful rhymes. General admission is $9, groups of 10 or more pay $8 per person, and children younger than 2 enter free. The theater is at 950 Forrest Street. Performance and ticket information

7. ’80s and ’90s Night in Peachtree Corners

Material Girl and B4Y2K will take listeners from 1980s pop and rock into the alternative and radio-rock hits of the 1990s.

Music begins at 7 p.m. on the Town Green, 5140 Town Center Boulevard. Material Girl performs first, with B4Y2K expected to begin around 8:15 to 8:30 p.m. Admission is free, and guests should bring lawn chairs. 8. Better Than Ezra, Tonic and Vertical Horizon in Sugar Hill

The weekend’s largest ticketed concert brings three prominent alternative-rock bands to The Bowl at Sugar Hill.

Sunday, July 26

9. Water Slides and Bounce Houses in Cumming

Slide Into Sundays returns to Cumming City Center from noon to 8 p.m. with water slides, bounce houses and games.

Admission is $10 per child for unlimited play. Families should bring swimsuits, towels, sunscreen and drinking water. The event is held at 423 Canton Road. Event details

10. “Of Thee We Sing” in Roswell

The Michael O’Neal Singers will close the weekend with a 150-voice choral concert celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary.

The program combines familiar American music with choral works, including an arrangement of “My Country, ’Tis of Thee” commissioned by Roswell United Methodist Church. The concert begins at 3 p.m. at the church, 814 Mimosa Boulevard.
