Shipley Do-Nuts is returning to North Atlanta with a new shop planned near Johns Creek on State Bridge Road. The location will feature a drive-thru and offer the Texas chain's signature doughnuts and kolaches.

Major local stories and useful updates, once a week.
The Texas doughnut chain is targeting a State Bridge Road shopping center for a new location, just months after its previous Cumming shop closed.
Shipley Do-Nuts appears ready to take another run at North Atlanta, this time in the busy commercial corridor between Johns Creek and Alpharetta.
A new Shipley location is planned for the Kroger-anchored Saddlebrook shopping center at 10945 State Bridge Road, placing the Texas-born doughnut chain near one of the most heavily traveled retail stretches connecting the two communities. The proposed shop would occupy about 1,600 square feet in an end-cap space with an existing drive-thru.
The project gives more definition to an Atlanta-area expansion Shipley announced earlier this year. In February, the company said new restaurants were planned for Alpharetta, Roswell and Sandy Springs as part of a broader national growth push. At the time, however, individual sites and opening dates had not been announced.
The State Bridge Road location now provides the first clear North Fulton address tied to that expansion.
A Second Chance in North Atlanta
Metro Atlanta’s first Shipley Do-Nuts opened in March 2023 on Keith Bridge Road in Cumming. That restaurant closed in January 2026, temporarily leaving the chain without a metro Atlanta location.
The planned State Bridge shop represents a different strategy.
Rather than locating farther north in Forsyth County, Shipley would land in the dense Alpharetta-Johns Creek retail corridor, surrounded by established neighborhoods, schools, offices and everyday commuter traffic.
It would also enter an increasingly competitive breakfast-and-coffee market. A Tim Hortons opened about half a mile away earlier this year, adding another drive-thru option for commuters along State Bridge Road.
What Shipley Brings
Founded in Houston in 1936, Shipley is best known for its fresh glazed doughnuts, along with iced, filled and cake varieties, fritters, bear claws and other pastries. The other defining part of its menu is the kolache, the Texas breakfast staple typically filled with combinations of sausage, egg, cheese and other savory ingredients.
The company has been growing aggressively beyond Texas. Shipley opened a record 35 shops in 2025 and has been adding markets throughout the South and Southeast. Its latest development agreements include additional locations around Atlanta as well as expansion into Las Vegas, New Orleans and Dallas-Fort Worth.
Why State Bridge Road Makes Sense
Saddlebrook already has Kroger as its major anchor, along with Daiso, the Japanese discount retailer that opened there in 2025. The planned Shipley space also has something especially valuable for a breakfast concept: a drive-thru left from an earlier tenant.
For residents of Johns Creek, eastern Alpharetta and nearby parts of South Forsyth, that could make Shipley an easy stop rather than a destination requiring a special trip.
Shipley has not yet announced an opening date for the State Bridge Road shop. The location also does not yet appear among operating stores in the company’s online directory.
But for North Atlanta residents who missed Shipley after its Cumming departure, the comeback is now considerably more concrete.
