Peachtree Corners Gains Major Electrical Training Center as Georgia’s Skilled-Trade Pipeline Expand

A different kind of opening is taking shape in Peachtree Corners this month — one aimed not at shoppers or diners, but at the workers building the region around them.

Independent Electrical Contractors Atlanta and Georgia has moved into a new 27,500-square-foot training facility at 330 Research Court, significantly expanding its apprenticeship and workforce-development operations. Classes are scheduled to begin the week of Aug. 17, followed by a formal grand opening and ribbon cutting on Sept. 2.

The nonprofit trade association says the new center gives it roughly three times the training space it previously had and is being prepared to accommodate about 1,500 electrical apprentices. Sixteen pallets of textbooks recently arrived ahead of the new school year, while crews have been finishing practical details including parking-lot lighting and classroom preparations.

IEC provides a multi-year apprenticeship path for people entering the electrical trade, along with continuing education, project-management instruction and technical training for workers already in the industry. The Atlanta and Georgia chapters marked their largest graduation ceremony to date this summer, with 152 apprentices completing the program in 2026.

The Peachtree Corners location places that workforce pipeline inside one of metro Atlanta’s largest employment corridors, surrounded by technology companies, contractors, manufacturers and other businesses clustered around Technology Park.

Across Johns Creek, Alpharetta, Forsyth County, Suwanee, Duluth and Peachtree Corners, new mixed-use projects, restaurants, housing developments, data-intensive businesses and commercial buildings continue to move from plans into construction. Nearly every one eventually depends on electricians — not only during construction, but for maintenance, upgrades, automation and increasingly complex building systems.

The organization’s apprenticeship program combines classroom education with paid on-the-job experience through participating electrical contractors. IEC also offers specialized instruction and continuing-education courses for licensed professionals, including electrical-code training.

There is a broader workforce story here as well.

College remains the default route promoted to many North Atlanta high school students, but apprenticeship programs offer another path into skilled careers without separating education from employment. IEC’s expansion creates additional capacity for students and career changers interested in entering the electrical field while earning experience on active job sites.

The organization has also been widening its outreach. This summer, IEC hosted students from Georgia Tech’s Electrical Systems & Sustainability Summer Camp and continued programs introducing younger people to electrical work and construction careers.

Peachtree Corners has long marketed itself around technology and innovation. The arrival of a large skilled-trades training center adds a less visible but equally important piece of that economy: the people who install, power and maintain the infrastructure behind it.

Classes begin the week of Aug. 17, with IEC’s public grand-opening celebration scheduled for Sept. 2 at 330 Research Court in Peachtree Corners.
