Gwinnett Police Hiring Event Offers $55,923 Starting Pay and Paid Training

Gwinnett County Police will hold a two-day hiring event this weekend, offering applicants a chance to complete the first stage of recruitment for full-time officer positions starting at $55,923 a year.
The event runs Friday, Sept. 18, from 3 to 8 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 19, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Police Training Center, 854 Winder Highway in Lawrenceville.
The recruitment has a direct North Atlanta connection. Gwinnett officers serve Sugar Hill and Peachtree Corners, along with unincorporated areas of Suwanee and Duluth, through the department’s North, Central and West precincts. Those patrol operations use rotating 12-hour shifts.
Starting pay rises to $57,600 with an associate degree or $59,278 with a bachelor’s degree. New hires may qualify for an additional hiring incentive of up to 10% of base salary. Night shifts carry a 5% differential.
A college degree is not required. Applicants need a high school diploma or GED, U.S. citizenship and a valid driver’s license. They may apply at 20 but must be 21 to serve. Background and physical-agility screening are required.
Candidates will complete an obstacle course, orientation, detailed application and oral interview. Allow two to three hours, potentially longer, and bring water and a snack because some activities take place outdoors. Conditional offers may be made, but the event does not complete the entire hiring process.
The department provides full pay during training, plus health coverage and tuition reimbursement. That offers career changers a route into policing without an unpaid training period.
Applicants should submit the event application before attending so an investigator can arrange an appointment. Applicants without appointments may attend but should expect longer waits. The posting closes at 3 p.m. Saturday.
