North Atlanta’s Friday-night events remain scheduled, but anyone heading to an outdoor concert should check for a late-afternoon update before leaving home.
The National Weather Service forecast for North Fulton calls for a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon, a high near 91 and a heat index approaching 98. The storm chance drops to 10% before 8 p.m. in Roswell.
In Duluth and eastern Gwinnett, the forecast carries a 40% afternoon storm chance and a 30% chance before 8 p.m., with a high near 92 and heat-index readings around 100.
No cancellation had been announced for the following events Friday morning.
Four free choices for Friday night
Decades Band is scheduled to play Avalon Nights Live from 6 to 8 p.m. at 400 Avalon Blvd. in Alpharetta. Chairs and blankets may be placed in the Plaza beginning at 5 p.m.; coolers are prohibited. Avalon will post any weather cancellation through @avaloninsider.
Duluth’s Rock the Block brings Lilac Wine to the Town Green from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission is free, with downtown restaurants nearby. Friday-night parking can become crowded, particularly if visitors wait for a storm to pass before arriving.
Johns Creek’s Adaptive Recreation Dance Night is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Mark Burkhalter Amphitheater inside Newtown Park, 3150 Old Alabama Road. The free event is intended for participants age 15 and older and includes a DJ, glow sticks and light refreshments. Registration is requested.
In Cumming, Landslide will perform Fleetwood Mac songs during Rokin for a Reason from 8 to 10 p.m. at the Lou Sobh Amphitheater, 423 Canton Road. Admission and parking are free.
The Cumming concert supports awareness of Keystone Village, a planned residential community for adults with disabilities. Guests may bring chairs or blankets, but not coolers, outside food or beverages, tents or glass containers.
Bret Michaels seats remain, but several categories are gone
Bret Michaels takes the stage at The Bowl at Sugar Hill at approximately 8 p.m., with doors opening around 7.
Several categories have sold out, including premium seats, suites and six-person picnic tables. Remaining official inventory included regular seats for $70.29 with fees and accessible seating for $54.42 Friday morning. Four-person tables remained available for $424.58.
The concert is designated rain or shine, and ticket sales are final.
Jack Johnson and Lake Street Dive are also scheduled at Ameris Bank Amphitheatre in Alpharetta at 7:30 p.m. Tickets remain available, although prices vary by location and resale availability.
Sunday Girl Scout registration closes tonight
Friday is also the deadline to reserve a place in Sunday’s Girl Scout Entertainment Technology Badge Workshop at Mimms Museum of Technology and Art in Roswell.
The workshop runs from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23. Scout tickets cost $20 and chaperone tickets cost $15, including materials and museum admission.
Advance registration is mandatory and closes at midnight Friday. Participants who want to save their animated creations should bring a phone or tablet.
