A proposed data-center expansion in Alpharetta leads Thursday’s briefing. The Braves face a winner-take-all playoff game, Cumming is moving forward with a major water-system upgrade, and several road and trail closures require attention.
1. Alpharetta hears data-center substation plan tonight
Alpharetta’s Planning Commission will consider a Georgia Power substation and expansion at the existing Royal 400 Data Center tonight.
The request covers 38.8 acres at 4905 North Point Parkway. It would add a utility substation as a conditional use, reduce an undisturbed buffer and permit security fencing or walls taller than eight feet.
A separate proposal would allow a freestanding restaurant without a drive-thru on 3.75 acres along Windward Parkway. The restaurant plan also seeks permission for outdoor seating within a stream setback.
The Alpharetta Planning Commission agenda) places both public hearings on tonight’s 6:30 p.m. meeting at City Hall.
2. Braves’ season comes down to Game 3 tonight
Atlanta and Philadelphia will play a winner-take-all wild-card game tonight at Truist Park after the Phillies rallied for a 4-3 victory in 10 innings Wednesday.
The Braves carried a 3-1 lead into the eighth, but Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper hit consecutive home runs to tie the game. Alec Bohm then put Philadelphia ahead with a two-out homer in the 10th.
Atlanta left 11 runners on base despite seven innings of one-run pitching from Tyler Mahle. The deciding Game 3 begins at 8 p.m. on NBC and Peacock, with the winner advancing to face the Los Angeles Dodgers.
3. Cumming approves $26.3 million water-system contract
Cumming is moving ahead with a $26.289 million construction contract for the first phase of a major water-treatment upgrade.

The work includes a six-million-gallon clear well, electrical improvements and supporting infrastructure intended to increase storage and strengthen reliability as demand grows. Parts of the city’s existing treatment system date to 1959.
The clear well is part of a broader plan to add six million gallons per day of treatment capacity, eventually raising the city’s total to 30 million gallons per day. Cumming Utilities’ expansion plan outlines the additional storage and treatment capacity.
4. South Forsyth restaurant closes after failing inspection
Hashtag India has temporarily closed after receiving a score of 49 on a Sept. 24 health inspection.
Inspectors found problems involving food temperatures, pest control, sanitation and food handling at the restaurant, located at 4090 Johns Creek Parkway. The business agreed to remain closed until inspectors clear it to reopen.
A score below 70 is considered failing. The restaurant had scored 85 in March 2026 and 100 in March 2025. The South Forsyth inspection report details the closure and previous scores.
5. Forsyth graduation rate reaches another record
Forsyth County Schools posted a 97.47% graduation rate for 2026, the highest in district history.
The result surpassed last year’s record of 97% and placed Forsyth nearly nine percentage points above Georgia’s 88.5% statewide rate.
The district’s graduation report marks a second consecutive record for a school system serving more than 55,000 students.
6. Georgia voter-registration deadline arrives Monday
Residents have through Monday, Oct. 5, to register for Georgia’s Nov. 3 general and special election.
Existing voters should also check their registration after moving or changing a name. Advance voting runs Oct. 13 through Oct. 30, while absentee-ballot applications remain open through Oct. 23.
Gwinnett County’s 2026 election schedule includes links to registration, absentee voting and the state’s My Voter Page.
7. Peachtree Corners water-main meeting takes place tonight
Residents can learn tonight how a five-month water-main replacement will affect part of Peachtree Corners.
Construction begins Monday, Oct. 5, and is expected to continue through February. Crews will replace 4,200 feet of aging eight-inch pipe and install approximately 1,500 feet of copper loop.
Weekday construction is generally scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with additional noise and traffic expected. The Sumac Water Main Replacement meeting begins online at 6:30 tonight.
8. Campground Road begins monthlong closure at Highway 9
Campground Road is closed at Highway 9, also known as Atlanta Highway, for approximately 30 days.
The closure is part of Georgia DOT’s continuing Highway 9 widening project. Drivers should follow the signed detour and allow additional time through southwest Forsyth County.
The schedule remains subject to weather and construction conditions. The Campground Road project update explains the closure and the larger road work.
9. Overnight lane closures continue on Peachtree Parkway
Drivers on State Route 141 in Peachtree Corners should expect overnight lane closures near the pedestrian bridge tonight.
One right lane will close in each direction from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. while crews perform routine bridge maintenance. Another right- or left-lane closure may be required Friday night.
Work moves to the bridge platforms next week without expected traffic closures. The city’s maintenance schedule advises drivers to reduce speed and allow extra travel time.
10. Part of Suwanee Creek Greenway closes this weekend
Trail users will not be able to pass beneath the Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road bridge this weekend while Georgia DOT crews work overhead.
The affected section closes at 7 p.m. Saturday and is scheduled to reopen at 6 a.m. Monday. Other portions of the Greenway and its trailheads will remain accessible.
Signs and barricades will mark the construction area. Suwanee’s Greenway notice cautions that additional temporary closures may be needed during a later phase of the bridge project.
