Milton Weighs Four Medians and a New Crossing on Hopewell Road
Milton City Council will discuss four raised medians and a flashing pedestrian crossing near Hopewell Place and Vickery Crest at its Nov. 2 meeting.

Major local stories and useful updates, once a week.
Milton is considering four raised medians and a new pedestrian crossing on southern Hopewell Road, where residents of Hopewell Place and Vickery Crest have asked for changes to slow traffic and make crossing safer.
Deputy Public Works Director Rob Dell-Ross is scheduled to present the options to City Council at its Monday, Nov. 2, meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers.
The proposed crossing would sit just south of Hopewell Place and include a rectangular rapid-flashing beacon to alert drivers to pedestrians. Four raised median islands would be added along the corridor. The northern improvements would be near Hopewell Place Drive, with the southern medians near Southfield Lane and Glenhaven Drive.
The changes could also help Milton pursue a lower speed limit. The road is currently posted at 45 mph in this area, compared with 35 mph across the Alpharetta line. City officials say the proposed measures would support a future request to the state to reduce the limit.
Reducing vehicle speeds and improving conditions for people walking, cycling and riding horses are priorities in Milton’s Local Road Safety Plan. Raised median islands and crossings between intersections are among the measures the plan recommends.
Monday’s discussion is scheduled under Reports and Presentations. Council members can ask questions and give direction during that portion of the meeting, but cannot take a binding vote on the proposal.
Residents can attend at City Hall or watch through the city’s Nov. 2 meeting page.
