Southern Italian Restaurant Osteria Bella Is Coming to Halcyon This Fall

Osteria Bella, a new Southern Italian restaurant by the owners of Marietta’s Mezza Luna, opens this fall at Halcyon. The restaurant highlights Calabrian dishes and warm hospitality in a welcoming setting with indoor and outdoor seating near the Village Green.

A new Southern Italian restaurant from the family behind Marietta’s longtime Mezza Luna is preparing to open at Halcyon in South Forsyth.

Osteria Bella is expected to open this fall in the former Butcher & Brew space overlooking Halcyon’s Village Green. The restaurant will occupy Suite 410 at 6690 Town Square, near the center of the mixed-use development’s dining and entertainment district.

The restaurant is being created by Daniele and Bella Furfaro, who took full ownership of Mezza Luna in 2023 after joining the Marietta restaurant as co-owners three years earlier.

Both are originally from Calabria, a region in southern Italy known for assertive flavors, seafood, preserved vegetables and the peppers that carry its name. The couple moved to Georgia in 2014.

Osteria Bella will draw directly from that background rather than presenting a broad, generalized Italian menu. Planned dishes include squid-ink tagliatelle with mussels, shrimp, calamari and clams; paccheri pasta with slow-braised duck ragù; and branzino served with lemon-butter sauce, capers and cherry tomatoes.

Calabrian peppers, seasonal produce and house-made limoncello will also feature prominently. The restaurant plans to introduce changing seasonal menus and host special dining events throughout the year.

The name is a tribute to Bella Furfaro, who is both Daniele’s wife and business partner.

“I cook the food I grew up with in Calabria, and I want people to feel as though our family has welcomed them into our home,” Daniele Furfaro said in announcing the restaurant. “Osteria Bella gives us the opportunity to share that hospitality on a bigger stage.”

The interior is being designed around a glass storefront, warm lighting, porcelain tile and a wraparound quartz bar. Both indoor and outdoor seating are planned, placing the restaurant directly within the pedestrian activity surrounding the Village Green.

The opening will give Halcyon another locally operated full-service restaurant at a time when the development continues to evolve beyond its original collection of national and regional concepts. Halcyon already draws diners from South Forsyth, Alpharetta, Cumming and nearby Johns Creek, particularly on weekends and during concerts and community events.

Osteria Bella also represents a larger step for the Furfaro family. Their Marietta restaurant is being renamed Trattoria Bella this month, creating a shared identity between the established neighborhood trattoria and the larger new restaurant at Halcyon.

An exact opening date has not yet been announced.

Know the Difference: Trattoria vs. Osteria

Trattoria
Traditionally a casual, family-run restaurant serving hearty regional dishes. Trattorias are known for a warm, home-style atmosphere and a menu centered on comfort food and local recipes.

Osteria
Originally a simple tavern where wine was the main attraction, often with just a few dishes. Today, many modern osterias have evolved into chef-driven neighborhood restaurants that still emphasize regional cooking but often offer a more curated menu and a stronger focus on wine.

In practice: The distinction has become less rigid in modern Italy. Many restaurants choose the name that best reflects the atmosphere they want to create rather than following strict culinary rules. In Osteria Bella’s case, the name suggests a welcoming neighborhood restaurant with a strong Southern Italian identity and an emphasis on sharing food, wine and hospitality.
