Major local stories and useful updates, once a week.
A family of four can spend anywhere from $50 to $78 on an ice-skating outing around North Atlanta this winter, before hot chocolate, parking or any applicable taxes.
The lowest price belongs to The ICE in Cumming, an indoor rink open year-round. Among seasonal outdoor rinks, a weekday trip to Skate City Springs is the least expensive.
For a consistent comparison, the totals below cover two adults, a 12-year-old and an 8-year-old, with rental skates for everyone. They are based on published standard rates, with Medley’s stated service fees included, but exclude taxes and optional extras.
| Rink | Family of four | Session and skate rentals |
|---|---|---|
| The ICE, Cumming | $50 | 90 minutes; rentals extra but included in total |
| Skate City Springs | $57 weekdays; $69 weekends | 60 minutes; rentals included |
| Avalon on Ice, Alpharetta | $64 | Timed session; rentals included |
| Sugar Hill Ice Rink | $66 | Admission and skate rentals |
| Skate the Plaza, Johns Creek | $78 regular; $66 Mondays | 75 minutes; rentals and reported service fees included; tax extra |
Cumming leads on price and ice time
At The ICE, skaters 11 and older pay $9, children ages 6 to 10 pay $7 and rentals add $4 each. The sample family’s 90-minute session comes to $50, the lowest total here. It’s a year-round indoor facility rather than a temporary holiday rink.
Skate City Springs, which opens Nov. 13, charges $15 for adults and $12 for children ages 2 to 9 from Monday through Thursday. Weekend prices rise to $18 and $15. For this family, going on a weekday saves $12. Each session lasts one hour, and skates are included.
Avalon and Sugar Hill fall in the middle
At Avalon on Ice, the $18 general admission and $14 ticket for children 12 and younger bring the family total to $64. Skates are included. The Alpharetta rink opens Nov. 22, and reservations are recommended.
Sugar Hill’s rink, behind City Hall, opens Nov. 13. General admission with skate rental costs $17, while children 8 and younger pay $15, including skates. That makes the sample family’s total $66. The $169 season pass offers another option for frequent visitors.
A Monday discount at Medley
Skate the Plaza at Medley in Johns Creek opens Nov. 27 and continues through Feb. 7. Regular tickets are $18 each for a 75-minute session with skates. Four tickets, plus the listed $1.50-per-ticket service fee, total $78 before tax.
The Monday discounted price lowers admission to $15 each. With those service fees, the family would pay $66 before tax, matching Sugar Hill’s published total. Families should confirm the discount and checkout fees when choosing their date.
The best value depends on what kind of outing a family wants. The ICE offers the most skating time at the lowest price, while City Springs on a weekday, Avalon and a Monday at Medley offer relatively affordable ways to skate outdoors in a holiday setting.
