Old Milton Parkway Widening Will Reshape Avalon Corridor Through 2029

Drivers moving through the Avalon area are watching the early stages of a much larger change on Old Milton Parkway: a nearly two-mile reconstruction that will add lanes, rebuild bridges and alter the center of one of Alpharetta’s busiest roads.

The SR 120 widening project stretches from North Point Parkway to Kimball Bridge Road. Old Milton Parkway will grow from four lanes to six, separated for most of the route by a 20-foot raised median.

The two bridges over Big Creek will be replaced as part of the work. Most of the new roadway is being built inward, through the existing median rather than along the outside edges, which explains why much of the activity is concentrated in the middle of the corridor.

Construction has only begun; GDOT lists the work at just over 5% complete. The state’s current construction estimate is about $29 million, while Fulton County’s transportation program anticipates completion in August 2029.

For drivers headed to Avalon, North Point or the neighborhoods along Old Milton Parkway, the barrels and lane shifts are the beginning of a long project—not a quick repair.
