Free Israeli Food Tasting Comes to Dunwoody Oct. 27

Chefs Yossi Shitrit and Shai Lavi bring free Israeli food tastings to Dunwoody's Marcus Jewish Community Center on October 27. The event is open to all and features local and Israeli flavors.

Chefs Yossi Shitrit and Shai Lavi will serve free Israeli food tastings in Dunwoody on Tuesday, Oct. 27, when the “A Taste of Israel” food truck stops at the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta.

The event runs from noon to 3 p.m. at the JCC’s Zaban Park campus, 5342 Tilly Mill Road. It is open to the community, with no registration required. Food will be available while supplies last.

Shitrit will cook alongside Lavi, chef and owner of The Third Space in Atlanta. Their featured dish is fish katayef: crispy flatbread filled with grouper, cilantro, tahini and amba sauce. A vegetarian option will also be available.

The Dunwoody visit is part of a four-city food-truck tour organized by the Israel Ministry of Tourism. At each stop, Shitrit joins a local chef or food creator to prepare food for visitors. The tour also includes stops in Florida, Nashville and the Dallas area.

The ministry is using the tour to promote travel to Israel through its food and chefs. Yoash Ben-Izhak, the ministry’s vice president of marketing, said in a written statement that organizers hope the tastings will encourage people to visit the country.
