The Sanctum Nears Opening in Downtown Sugar Hill
The Sanctum is set to open soon in downtown Sugar Hill, offering steaks, seafood, and elevated Southern cuisine in a polished, formal setting. The restaurant will feature a dining room, bar, lounge, and patio seating, enhancing the city’s dining options.

Major local stories and useful updates, once a week.
Sugar Hill is getting closer to welcoming a restaurant designed for the kind of dinner that usually sends local residents toward Alpharetta, Buckhead or Atlanta.
The Sanctum at Sugar Hill is nearing completion at 1166 Church Street, where the restaurant is now in the inspection phase ahead of opening. An exact debut date has not yet been announced.
The concept will center on steaks, seafood and elevated Southern cooking, with owner Lisa Garey aiming for a more polished level of hospitality than the city’s current casual dining mix.
Garey grew up around luxury hospitality through her father’s career in the hotel industry and later built her own background in education, retail leadership and corporate training. She has described The Sanctum as an attempt to create a destination where Sugar Hill residents can have a special-occasion dining experience without making the drive into Atlanta.
The city has spent years building a walkable center around The Bowl, the Eagle Theatre, apartments, restaurants and small businesses. The Sanctum adds something the district has largely lacked: a restaurant built around a longer evening, reservations, cocktails and a more formal dining room.
Inside, the approach is intentionally upscale. The restaurant is planning a main dining room, patio seating, bar seating and a separate Sanctum Lounge for private dining, cocktails and special events.
There will also be a dress expectation. Smart casual and business-casual attire are encouraged, reinforcing the restaurant’s effort to create something closer to a traditional fine-dining experience than a neighborhood bar and grill.
The location itself carries some familiarity for longtime Sugar Hill diners. The Church Street property previously housed Sugar Hill Distillery, putting The Sanctum just off the center of downtown and within easy walking distance of the city’s public parking deck and other entertainment venues.
The restaurant will have complimentary on-site parking, with additional public parking available at the Church Street deck about a block away. Valet service is also being considered for later in 2026.
The Sanctum has not yet announced its first day of service, but with the restaurant now working through inspections, the project has moved beyond the “coming soon” stage and into the final stretch.
