Why Shaq Is Towering Over North Atlanta’s Cereal Aisles

Shaquille O’Neal appears in a life-size display at North Atlanta grocery stores as part of General Mills’ Biggest Fan Contest. The campaign celebrates cereal fans and offers prizes, connecting the national promotion with O’Neal’s local ties to Georgia and Atlanta.

North Atlanta shoppers may have noticed an unusually tall new figure standing in the cereal aisle.

A life-size display of basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal recently appeared at a local grocery store, surrounded by boxes of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Reese’s Puffs, Lucky Charms and Honey Nut Cheerios. The display is part of General Mills’ nationwide “Biggest Fan Contest,” a promotion searching for some of America’s most devoted cereal fans.

Although the campaign is national, O’Neal has substantial ties to Georgia. He owns a home in Henry County, serves as the county sheriff’s community relations director and has been involved in several Atlanta-area businesses and charitable efforts. He is also part-owner of the historic Krispy Kreme shop on Ponce de Leon Avenue in Atlanta.

The new cereal campaign plays on O’Neal’s outsized personality. Entrants are invited to demonstrate their cereal enthusiasm through stories, photographs and other evidence of fandom.

The grand-prize package includes $20,000, two VIP tickets to Shaq’s Fun House, travel accommodations, $1,000 in spending money and a meet-and-greet with O’Neal.

Several cereal-specific prizes are nearly as unconventional. One winner can receive a Cinnamon Toast Crunch-themed game-day room. Another prize includes a Reese’s Puffs turntable and sound system. The Honey Nut Cheerios package features a hot tub designed to resemble a cereal bowl, while the Lucky Charms prize includes two one-ounce gold bars.

Entries are open through Dec. 31 at BiggestFanContest.com. Cereal content creator Ami Moyal, known online as Cereal Life, will evaluate the 100 highest-scoring entries before O’Neal selects the grand-prize winner.

The winner is scheduled to be announced March 7, 2027, on National Cereal Day.

For shoppers who encounter the towering cardboard O’Neal in North Atlanta, the display is more than an ordinary celebrity endorsement. It is a local glimpse of a nationwide campaign built around one of Georgia’s most recognizable adopted personalities.

Keep it. Pass it on.
