Ichiban Steak & Sushi, a longtime Japanese restaurant at The Collection at Forsyth in Cumming, has closed after serving its final customers at the end of May.

The restaurant operated at 410 Peachtree Parkway, Suite 112, and was known locally for sushi, hibachi-style steak, salmon and lobster dishes, along with a casual dining room that served families, date-night diners and shoppers at the open-air center. For many South Forsyth residents, Ichiban was one of the familiar sit-down restaurants tied to The Collection’s earlier era, before the property began its recent wave of new leasing and tenant changes.

Its closing comes as The Collection continues to refresh its dining, retail and service mix along Peachtree Parkway, one of South Forsyth’s busiest shopping corridors. The center’s current dining lineup includes restaurants such as CAVA, Marlow’s Tavern, Mellow Mushroom, Ted’s Montana Grill, Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Rreal Tacos, Pure Pho & Grill, Tin Drum and several dessert and quick-service stops.

A direct replacement for Ichiban’s Suite 112 space has not yet been publicly announced. The biggest restaurant arrival at The Collection, however, is already on the calendar: The Cheesecake Factory is scheduled to open July 21 in the former Wild Wing Cafe space at Suite 242, becoming Forsyth County’s first location for the national chain.

The new restaurant will bring The Cheesecake Factory’s large, family-friendly format to Cumming, with more than 250 made-from-scratch menu items, a kids menu, a lighter SkinnyLicious menu, weekend brunch until 2 p.m. and more than 30 cheesecake and specialty dessert options. Its arrival is part of a broader leasing push at The Collection that also includes Warby Parker, Kimley-Horn and Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Georgia Properties.

For South Forsyth and Cumming diners, the change reflects a larger shift at The Collection: fewer empty storefronts, more national names and a renewed effort to position the center as a daily-use destination for shopping, dinner, errands and family outings. Ichiban’s closing removes one familiar local option from the mix, but the center itself remains in active transition, with new tenants reshaping one of the area’s most visible retail properties.
