From Johns Creek and Alpharetta to Cumming, Suwanee and Peachtree Corners, the days of the $15 neighborhood haircut are largely gone. While bargains still exist, most North Atlanta residents now pay considerably more depending on the type of shop they choose.
A basic men’s haircut at an independent neighborhood barber typically falls between $25 and $40. More modern barbershops offering fades, beard trims, hot towel service and appointments often charge $40 to $60, with some premium shops exceeding $70.
Women’s pricing varies much more because of hair length and styling. A simple haircut generally starts around $50 to $80, while appointments that include blow drying or styling commonly range from $80 to $120. High-end salons in Alpharetta, Milton or Avalon can charge well above that.
Children’s haircuts usually cost $20 to $35, although specialty children’s salons may be slightly higher.
Tipping remains an important part of the total cost. Most customers add 15% to 20%, meaning a $35 haircut often ends up costing around $40 to $42.
The biggest reasons prices have increased over the past several years include higher commercial rents, rising labor costs, more expensive salon products and the growing popularity of appointment-only service that allows barbers and stylists to spend more time with each customer.
For many North Atlanta residents, today’s “normal” price has settled around $35 to $45 for a men’s haircut and $70 to $100 for a women’s haircut, putting the region close to the national average for affluent suburban communities.
Your neighborhood, however, still matters. Independent family barbers often offer the best value, while luxury salons tend to focus on the overall experience as much as the haircut itself.
