Monkee’s Is Opening in Johns Creek With a Three-Day Celebration

A new women’s fashion boutique is preparing to open in Johns Creek, bringing clothing, shoes, accessories and home décor to an established shopping center near Newtown Park.
Monkee’s of Johns Creek will hold its grand opening from Thursday, Sept. 17, through Saturday, Sept. 19, at Old Alabama Square. The store is located at 3005 Old Alabama Road, Suite 310, and will welcome shoppers from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. throughout the three-day celebration.
Opening events will include pop-up vendors, sparkling drinks, sweet treats, gifts with purchase while supplies last and “golden ticket” giveaways. The boutique has also been offering a chance to win a $350 store gift card through its social media launch campaign.
The Johns Creek store describes its collection as a mix of timeless styles, elevated essentials and pieces intended to move easily between seasons. Early previews show colorful dresses, textured sweaters, outerwear, shoes, jewelry, handbags and decorative gifts, including pieces from fashion label Anna Cate.
An experienced boutique owner comes to Johns Creek
The store is owned by Sarah Woodworth, an experienced Monkee’s operator whose history with the company began more than a decade ago. Woodworth had wanted to own a clothing boutique since high school but initially expected to wait until later in life. The death of her father when she was 30 changed her sense of timing, and she opened her first Monkee’s store within the following 18 months.
Woodworth went on to operate Monkee’s boutiques in Lexington, Kentucky, and Naples, Florida. Her approach has emphasized the idea of a complete shopping destination, where customers can assemble an outfit for anything from an ordinary afternoon to a formal event, then add shoes, jewelry, a handbag or a gift during the same visit.
Monkee’s began in Wilmington, North Carolina, in 1995, when founder Deedee Shaw transformed a small space into a shoe boutique furnished with family antiques instead of conventional store fixtures. Its name came from the affectionate phrase Shaw’s mother used for her children: her “bunch of monkeys.”
The company has since expanded to more than 70 independently owned boutiques, with an emphasis on personal service and women’s clothing, shoes and accessories from a changing selection of designers. The Johns Creek shop joins existing Georgia locations in Athens, Gainesville, Augusta and Atlanta’s Peachtree Battle neighborhood.
A neighborhood location near Newtown Park
Rather than joining the wave of new businesses arriving at Medley, Monkee’s is opening in one of Johns Creek’s familiar neighborhood shopping centers. Old Alabama Square sits near the Haynes Bridge Road intersection and is anchored by The Fresh Market and Walgreens, with a mix of restaurants, fitness businesses and personal services surrounding them.
That location places the boutique close to Newtown Park, Country Club of the South and residential neighborhoods extending toward Roswell and the eastern side of Alpharetta. It also adds a new locally operated fashion destination to a center where many visits begin with groceries, exercise classes, coffee or a family outing.
