Five North Atlanta job openings, from city finance to hands-on work

Five local openings in Milton, Alpharetta, Sugar Hill and Woodstock offer published pay, varied schedules and a Nov. 16 deadline for two city jobs.

A job search close to home can lead to very different workdays: helping Milton residents settle a payment, organizing a stream cleanup in Alpharetta or getting roofing materials ready for a contractor in Sugar Hill.

Five openings selected from North Atlanta Star’s Hiring Desk offer a cross-section of those choices this week, from full-time city positions to part-time animal care. Each has a published pay range or starting rate. The two Milton openings share a Nov. 16 application deadline; the qualifications and schedules vary considerably.

Two ways into Milton’s finance department

Milton is hiring a revenue coordinator at $52,973 to $66,216 a year. The full-time job puts customer service alongside careful handling of money: accepting payments, updating accounts, balancing cash drawers and helping residents at the counter, by phone and by email.

Applicants need a high school diploma or GED and collections-office experience; accounting or business coursework is preferred. The city may consider an equivalent combination of training and experience. Occasional extended hours are part of the job during busy periods.

The city’s finance analyst opening, paying $58,403 to $73,003 annually, involves the other side of the ledger. The analyst handles vendor invoices and payments, reconciles statements and helps with month-end and year-end accounting.

That role calls for a relevant bachelor’s degree and at least three years of progressively responsible financial experience, with equivalent education and experience potentially considered. Both positions close at 11:59 p.m. Eastern on Nov. 16.

Environmental work with a public-facing role in Alpharetta

Alpharetta’s environmental program coordinator combines technical work with community involvement. Responsibilities include supervising the city water laboratory and assigned staff, investigating water pollution and organizing education and volunteer activities such as Adopt-A-Stream and Rivers Alive.

The anticipated starting salary is $75,400 to $88,238 for the full-time position. Applicants should bring substantial environmental experience: the qualifications include a related bachelor’s degree and four years of increasingly responsible work, while allowing a combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the job. Recruitment is continuous, with no fixed closing date.

A Sugar Hill warehouse role for experienced forklift operators

At A+ Roofing Supply in Sugar Hill, the warehouse associate’s work centers on getting orders right before they leave: checking materials, brands, colors and quantities, operating a forklift and staging pickups and deliveries.

The full-time role pays $23 to $26 an hour, depending on experience and demonstrated skills. Roofing warehouse experience and hands-on forklift experience are required, along with the ability to communicate in English and either Spanish or Russian.

The warehouse is at 454 Buford Highway NE. Applicants begin with a short online application, followed by a separate practical test. The assigned schedule and start date are discussed during hiring.

Part-time pet care in Woodstock

Pet Paradise’s Woodstock bather opening starts at $13 an hour and is eligible for tips. The work includes preparing animals for grooming appointments, giving baths and keeping bathing stations and tools clean. Nail trims, tooth brushing and ear cleaning may be assigned after training.

Comfort around animals matters, but so do physical stamina and patience with nervous pets. Prior animal-handling experience is strongly preferred, and the schedule requires flexibility for nights, weekends, holidays and busy periods.

Part-time employees are eligible for paid time off, and workers can apply for grooming and other training programs. Those opportunities are separate from the initial bather position.
