MINISO Is Coming to The Collection at Forsyth in September

MINISO is opening in September at The Collection at Forsyth, expanding the shopping choices in South Forsyth. The store will offer a range of affordable products, collectibles, and licensed merchandise appealing to younger buyers.

MINISO is preparing to open at The Collection at Forsyth in September, bringing one of the world’s fastest-growing lifestyle retail brands to South Forsyth.

The store is now under construction at the Peachtree Parkway shopping center. An exact opening day has not yet been announced, but The Collection’s owner says the retailer is expected to begin welcoming customers next month.

For shoppers unfamiliar with the name, MINISO sits somewhere between a variety store, gift shop and collectibles retailer. Its shelves typically mix beauty products, stationery, home goods, toys, accessories and inexpensive everyday items with licensed collections tied to entertainment brands and characters.

That latter part has become increasingly important to the company.

MINISO has built much of its recent growth around what it calls an “IP strategy” — merchandise created through partnerships with entertainment and character brands — giving its stores an especially strong appeal to younger shoppers and collectors. The company had 8,210 MINISO stores worldwide as of March 31, including 3,617 outside mainland China.

The Cumming store will not be the brand’s first in Georgia. MINISO already operates at the Mall of Georgia in Buford and at Atlantic Station in Atlanta.

Its arrival in South Forsyth is still significant because of what is happening around it.

The Collection has been in the middle of one of its most visible tenant refreshes in years. The Cheesecake Factory opened July 21, creating more than 200 jobs, while Warby Parker has also recently joined the center. Other additions include Sephora, Build-A-Bear Workshop, BODYROK, Rocket Fizz and The Picklr.

MINISO adds another kind of traffic to that mix.

Unlike a restaurant or appointment-based service business, it is built around browsing. Many of its products are inexpensive enough to encourage impulse purchases, while changing character collections give customers a reason to return rather than treating the store as a one-time destination.

That combination has become increasingly valuable to shopping centers trying to keep younger consumers walking through physical stores at a time when much routine retail has moved online.

MINISO is expected to open at The Collection at Forsyth in September. A specific grand-opening date has not yet been announced.
