Whole Foods Development in South Forsyth Moves Into Construction Phase — What We Know Now

Forsyth Town Center is taking shape at Ronald Reagan Boulevard and Peachtree Parkway, with Whole Foods Market anchoring the 35-acre development directly across from The Collection at Forsyth.

In an Oct. 5 update, Cumming-based land brokerage Crawford Lands reported that developer Fuqua Development confirmed a February 2027 opening. Whole Foods has not confirmed that timing.

In an Oct. 19 email to North Atlanta Star, Whole Foods representative Carrie Rodgers Hunte said: “I do not have an opening date or timeline to share and cannot confirm a February opening.”

The project combines the grocery store with restaurants, shops and other commercial uses along a corridor serving South Forsyth and nearby Johns Creek and Suwanee.

A New Center Taking Shape

Led by Fuqua Development, Forsyth Town Center occupies a prominent site near GA-400 and Peachtree Parkway. Its location opposite The Collection places it alongside an established concentration of stores, restaurants and services.

Whole Foods will be the grocery anchor, but the development extends beyond the supermarket. Plans and leasing activity include restaurants, drive-thru businesses, additional retail space and an Audi dealership.

October Update: Sign Permits and Hiring

The 35,500-square-foot grocery shell passed its final building inspection Aug. 14. Forsyth County subsequently issued permits Sept. 24 for two Whole Foods wall signs, one above the north entrance and another on the building’s east side.

Those approvals cover the building shell rather than the entire grocery-store interior. They mark progress toward opening but do not establish when customers will be able to shop. Our latest Whole Foods opening-progress report details the sign permits and hiring activity.

Job listings for the Cumming store were active by Sept. 18. Applicants can check the Whole Foods careers portal for available positions.

Whole Foods has not announced an opening month, exact opening day, regular hours or grand-opening plans. The third-party February report remains unconfirmed by the company.

Forsyth County’s First Whole Foods

The store at 3135 Ronald Reagan Boulevard will be Forsyth County’s first Whole Foods. The nearest existing location is at Avalon in Alpharetta, roughly 10 miles south.

For residents in South Forsyth and along the Peachtree Parkway corridor, the new store will provide an alternative to driving into Alpharetta. It will also add another grocery option near Johns Creek and Suwanee.

Restaurants and Other Tenants

Other businesses at Forsyth Town Center are moving through their own construction and permitting schedules. Chipotle and Panda Express have completed building permits and obtained county business licenses. LaserAway has signage in place, while Potbelly is building out a restaurant expected to open around November.

The broader tenant lineup also includes Whataburger and the planned Audi Forsyth County dealership from Baranco Automotive Group. Plans have referenced additional drive-thru space, though a tenant should not be assumed until an announcement is made.

The businesses will open on separate schedules as their spaces are completed. Progress at one tenant does not establish an opening date for the rest of the center.

The Developer Behind the Project

Fuqua Development is an Atlanta-based firm whose projects combine major retail tenants with restaurants, services and other uses. Its work in the Atlanta region includes developments at The Battery Atlanta and Town Brookhaven.

At Forsyth Town Center, Whole Foods will anchor that mix. For now, the store’s construction milestones and hiring activity provide signs of progress, while the opening schedule remains unannounced by Whole Foods.
